Con
Victims Are Attention Seekers
"Colleges and universities are being educated by Washington and are finding the experience excruciating. They are learning that when they say campus victimizations are ubiquitous (“micro-aggressions,” often not discernible to the untutored eye, are everywhere), and that when they make victimhood a coveted status that confers privileges, victims proliferate. And academia’s progressivism has rendered it intellectually defenseless now that progressivism’s achievement, the regulatory state, has decided it is academia’s turn to be broken to government’s saddle."
George Will, Washington Post Columnist |
According to Will, now that colleges are acknowledging rape and sexual assault on campus, women are using it to get attention, rejoicing in the role of the victim.
People who have been victimized sometimes seem to get entangled in the outcome of the public eye, but an extensive number of people would have favored not being assaulted. There is absolutely no enjoyment in taking pride over the "victim status," because they are the first ones under suspicion when an allegation is made. The victim is more likely to be judged and blames for the punishment that transpires against the perpetrator.
To top it all off, Will put quotation marks around the term "sexual assault" throughout the column that was published, implying that it was a made-up term or concept. The most essential part of the problem of sexual assault and rape is the idea that men somehow have a right to women’s bodies, when in reality, they do not. 1
